Burning is not typically a good thing. Sunburns to burning dinner to career burnout all have something in common. Typically you don’t know it is happening at the time. It can sneak up on you unexpectedly, and often you don’t know about it until the damage is done.

Fortunately it is possible to prevent all of these ‘burning’ issues from happening in the first place. It does take a little bit of planning though. Whether putting on sunscreen, setting the kitchen timer or building in some time for self-care, the prevention is far less painful and definitely worthwhile.

At first it may seem like a stretch to compare all of these things, but after getting my first sunburn of the year while updating my physician burnout book by the beach you could say I was inspired. Luckily I didn’t burn anything on the grill. Which reminds me… dinner is ready. Have a great summer, and remember to avoid the burn!
