The New Year brings with it all kinds of resolutions, goals and grand ideas of a new and improved life. Are you on track with your goals? Have you turned the corner with your new – and improved – lifestyle habits?

Unfortunately, most people fail to achieve that vision of themselves. But that is no reason to give up. There are multiple reasons people fail; and with help all of them can be overcome. One of the biggest is a lack of motivation. In order to put in the hard work required to succeed, you must know why you want to make the change. And that reason must be big enough to motivate you through the challenging times that come along.

Another reason is that there is nobody looking over your shoulder to make sure you are on task. New Year’s resolutions aren’t like at work where the boss makes sure you have the project done or home where your spouse is counting on you to finish a chore. That is why it helps to have someone act as an accountability partner. When we have some we are responsible to answer to about our progress, we are more likely to keep on task.

Time: it is one of the biggest factors. It takes time to get rid of bad habits and replace them with good habits. Most research suggests it takes at least three weeks and maybe four before the change becomes automatic. Until then it helps to have reminders or triggers to keep us on task.

A health and wellness coach can be a big help when trying to make big changes in your lifestyle. My clients achieve success because they have invested in breaking the cycle of failure they have experienced in the past. By addressing the stumbling blocks we discussed above – and others that are unique to each individual – I have helped them achieve the vision they have for their healthier and happier life.

If you are struggling with your New Year’s resolutions, or any other health and wellness goal, consider trying something different. With personalized one-on-one coaching you can access the tools necessary to succeed. Wouldn’t it be nice to feel healthier, have more energy, and develop greater self-confidence? There is a way.
